About Volunteer Park ConservatoryThe Victorian-style greenhouse structure is modeled after Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London. It has 3,426 glass panes fit into a wood and iron frame, while the interior is divided into five display houses, therefore prepare to admire the bromeliads, ferns, palms, seasonal, and cacti and succulents.
The specialty plant collections in Volunteer Park Conservatory were built through donations from individuals, so you will be able to enjoy thousands of living specimens - those for display, as well as those being cultivated in the adjacent greenhouses.
The Volunteer Park Conservatory gathers not only amazing plant specimens, but also sculptural features and artworks: the ornate beveled glass lunette window, which originates from 1912, the hand blown and stained green glass canopy (“Homage in Green”, designed by Richard Spaulding and added in1981), as well as other green glass pieces designed by the same artist, added in 1982 and 1995, “Over Lyre” – a sculptural instrument that you will find in the bromeliad house along with a wrought iron display tree designed by Randy Benson.
As such, there are plenty of things to see in Volunteer Park Conservatory and all of them will amaze you not only with their natural beauty, but also with their craft.
