About Saint Edward State ParkSaint Edward State Park contains a series of trails for bicyclists and hikers and you can also admire the forest canopy made up of species such as Coast Douglas-fir, Western Redcedar, Bigleaf Maple, Pacific Madrone, as well as Western Hemlock. On the west side of the park there is an undeveloped beach on Lake Washington.
Saint Edward State Park is a place where you can also be culturally enriched because it surrounds the Saint Thomas Center that contains at its turn the Bastyr University.
The land of the park was originally owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle that developed the Saint Edward Seminary in 1931; there is also the indoor Carole Ann Wald Memorial Pool, constructed in 1969. The seminar closed in 1977 and it is listed on the Washington State Heritage Register since 1997, while in April 2007 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Unfortunately, both the pool and the seminar need renovation and are closed to the public; however, the latter only rents the refectory for special events.
Nevertheless, Saint Edward State Park boasts with the largest children’s playground in the state: built by local volunteers in 2003, the playground is actually part of the top 5 playgrounds in the state of Washington. As such, Saint Edward State Park holds many surprises for you.
