About Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market is another Seattle landmark: it is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront. Opened on August 17, 1907, the Market is one of the oldest continually operated public farmers’ markets in the USA. It takes its name from the main street and stretches between Pike Street and Virginia Street, northwest of Seattle’s central business district. It is a place where the small farmers, craftspeople and merchants can display the results of their work, which made Pike Place Market one of Seattle’s top tourist attractions.

Built on the edge of a steep hill, the Market is made of several lower levels located below the main level. All the levels that make up Pike Place Market will surprise you with their arrangement of unique shops, antique dealers, comic book sellers, as well as small family-owned restaurants. The area also features one of the few remaining head shops in the city.

Pike Place Market is not only a place for business, but also for lodging since there are nearly 500 residents living in 8 different buildings along the Market. Run by the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA), Pike Place Market is visited by around 10 million visitors per year.

One of the major attractions here is the Pike Place Fish Market where the employees have their own traditional “flying fish” method of selling fish, but you have to be there to see it if you haven’t already on the television sitcom Frasier that was shot here. There are many more things to say about Pike Place Market, but you’re welcome anytime to experience them by yourselves.
