About Museum of History & Industry
The Museum of History and Industry, otherwise known as the MOHAI, is a landmark located in the Montlake neighborhood, Seattle.

The beginnings of the Museum of History and Industry can be traced in 1911 when Morgan and Emily Carkeek hosted their first annual Founder’s Day private party with attendees wearing historic costumes and bringing artifacts and documents related to early Seattle.

These parties lead to the establishment of the Seattle Historical Society in 1914 that finally found its home in 1950 in the present site in Montlake. The new museum opened its gates to the public in 1952.

The Museum of History and Industry has several departments under the care of 35 permanent staff members: Administration and Development, Education, Public Programs and Events, Collections, Exhibits, Library and Archives, and Communications, attracting a number of 60,000 visitors annually. There are around 4 million objects in the collection, including around 100,000 artifacts, 1.5 million photographs, as well as extensive archives.

The Museum of History and Industry has permanent exhibits on display, as well as temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibits are dedicated to several periods of the history of Seattle and its surroundings, as follows: "This Native Land" (1792–1859), "Little Town on Elliott Bay" (1859–1889), "Boom Times, Hard Times" (1889–1940), "Homefront" (1941–1945), "Our Own City" (1946–present), and many more. The temporary exhibits cover a wide range of topics: "Lincoln: Constitution and Civil War," "Finding Your Way: Human Navigation", "Theatre de la Mode," and "The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons" are only a few examples.

The Museum of History and Industry also provides education programs for students and teachers in order to complement the permanent exhibitions.
